1. On-site meeting and analysis:
I always think this is the most important step. At our first meeting we will discuss what you would like from a new design, how you intend to use your outdoor space. Are you looking for a quiet getaway or a place to cook and entertain? This is a time to discuss any problem areas that every garden has - ugly air conditioner units, garbage bins stacked down the side! We will discuss your style and color preferences and any functional needs you may have - would you like a garden that is low maintenance or full of cutting flowers that gives you the opportunity to potter around the garden?
To create the base for my plans, I will measure your property, marking buildings and any existing trees or structures that you would like to remain.
2. Concept Sketches:
I will then prepare several sketches showing you my ideas for your garden using the information we discussed at our first meeting and showing you other ideas that you may not have considered before. Together, we can fine tune the design incorporating ideas from the sketches and any more requests that you may have.
3. Master Plan:
I will then draft the ideas in a detailed plan. The plan will show the property with existing buildings. It will detail the new elements for the garden including new or redesigned pathways, patios and planting beds, lawns and any structures such as trellises, arbors, storage areas etc.
4. Planting Plan:
This plan will show where the plants are to be placed and give a list of the plant names, sizes and quantities.
5. Site visits:
I always like to be on hand when my plans go into construction. I like to discuss the plans with the contractor beforehand to make sure the vision is translated into reality. It’s also very important that the plants are placed just so.
